Excellent article. I definitely think it comes down to a good teacher. People should do their research (Yelp etc) to make sure they aren't going to be pushed into something they aren't ready for. Sadie's quotes are great. Susie Ellis (Spafinder) also wrote a great response to the NYtimes article which you should check out here - http://blog.spafinder.com/spa-industry/spa-alert-uproar-ny-times-yoga-article-red-flag/

Great comments.

I'm finding that for my 50 yr old carcass, more cross training means I can do less in any particular activity, and still get decent all-around results. Still, remembering moderation is increasingly important, and where I consistently fail. Also, if I want to lose weight, eating less starch, rather than exercise, is really the key for me. I'm using "Hoodia" as an appetite suppressant, and it works wonderfully.. except when it wears off and I have ravenous hunger until I take more :/

Thanks for reading, Brianna! It's certainly not easy to hit the mat every single day, but it will keep us sane if we do, that's for sure :)

I just discovered your blog and I love reading your posts! I'm also a yogi in SLO and this post really resonated with me; when I get so busy, I feel like there's no time for exercise or yoga, but those stressful times are when I need yoga most.

Thanks for sharing and congrats on getting the yoga studio! It's a great one :)

bought it for my Kindle. it's on the stack :P

I think one aspect of interpreting practical intelligence is one's aim. Consider the artist vs. the mechanic. One aims to make it run, well. The other seeks to fulfill an aesthetic. So, the term "practical intelligence" is presuming something about one's aim which may or may not exist..
